Doug is the Artistic Director of THE NOAH PROJECT, a men's ritual performance group in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Through a magical blend of chant, movement, poetry and ritual, Doug weaves a spell that encompasses the estatic, the sacred and the wise fool.

He draws from many of the world's religious tradition: Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic, Zoroastrian, Christian, Jewish and Sufi to create a glorious mosaic that is, above all else, a celebration of the human spirit.


A self Introduction

Wise Fool I think

I live and play in the San Francisco Bay area. On a good day I'm an artist, teacher or performer. I have been known on occasion to cause people to "fall awake" with liberal doses of artistic medicine in words and sounds. I work in the wise fool tradion so that means I take what I do very seriously, but I don't take myself seriously at all.




Fool for Beauty

I am passionate about guiding community circles through ecstatic and sacred experiences that celebrate the human spirit. I draw upon many of the world's religious traditions to hopefully create fountains of beauty with song and chant so the sounds and vibrations continue to flow through an individuals heart long after the day or night has passed.




Traveling Fool!

I present chanting and singing workshops, study trips, poetry performances, rituals and other festive surprises in widening circles around the world. I love to introduce hundreds of men and women at a time (strangers one to another in a great hall) to the beauty and power of singing in magnificent harmonies. Often the response to the unexpected beauty is copious tears of joy. Somehow this is easy for me to do...go figure!




Fool for Singing!

What I do is a very public or community art form. The "way above average" magic happens when willing people with average voices gather in circles in a great room or hall and sing with me. . The sounds I've imagined at home come out to play in the room and our souls come out to shine. I love passionate and unapologetic singing. And the sound goes on and on...

Doug von Koss is now a widower, father of two, grandfather of five, and uncle to hundreds of men and women. Robert Moore, co-author of KING, WARRIOR, MAGICIAN and LOVER, calls DOUG "A great Earthshaman who is helping us begin singing a post tribal Earth Community into existence."
